Cicada’s wings

Cicada’s wings have the coolest defence mechanism—their wings are covered by pillar-like protrusions that shred bacteria to pieces. When a bacterium reaches the surface of the wing, it sticks to the surface of the pillars and its cellular membrane stretches until torn apart. The finding can be used to develop new antibacterial surfaces.
